On February 16th I received an email warning from The Dog Food Advisor about a recall of a dog food that contained phenobarbital. Isn't that what they use to euthanize dogs and cats? Common sense tells you how that got in there.
Ok, I'm going to get a little political here, and political arguments is just not my thing, but this one has to be said. Effective immediately, the USDA has removed all public records regarding labs, puppy mills, and other establishments that mistreat animals. The public will never know what companies use animals to test their product, nor will you be able to find USDA inspection reports on animal "breeders" (i.e.: puppy mills), or what happened to those animals. The reason? Profits. Major companies that test on animals would rather move to another country than have you know. So let's keep what they're doing a secret so they'll stay?
Moreover and importantly, it no longer requires pet food manufacturers to notify the public of pet food recalls that contain poison. The reason? Money. My guess is more and more people will start cooking for their pet, and their profit margin will be worse off wherever they move to. As a former advertising company proprietor, I ask you not to be fooled by big company marketing. Advertising execs are paid big money to make something bad appear good for you. Notice the major dog food manufacturer's new TV commercials on how American they are, or how their product makes the dog "think he can catch a bird". See through it. If you only knew what is actually in those bags....but you won't, because the language they are allowed to use on their ingredient list is deliberately misleading, and if dogs are dying from eating it, now you will never know that either. What is not fit for human consumption is in that bag (i.e.: rancid grease described as "added fat") and this is perfectly legal. It's all about profits. Think again about your choice of pet food. Your dog or cat depends on you! While we support the new administration's efforts to keep major companies from moving to other countries (where they can get away with inhumane practices), we can not sacrifice the safety of domesticated animals who rely on humans for their protection. They are God's creatures too, and let us not become undomesticated animals ourselves. We at Waldfrieden would like all our puppy buyers to see this video prior to adopting a puppy from us. Thank you! |
