FAQs
"Are there puppies currently available? I can't tell..."
ANSWER: Puppies in the "available" section can indeed be reserved, ultimately that's where we just put the current puppies, available or not.. We will try to make availability clear, but if you're ever unsure you are more than welcome to email us (waldaussies @ gmail.com)
"Is a Mini Aussie right for me?"
ANSWER: While we do ask to hear about your life and how our puppy will fit into it, we really cannot tell you what dog is right for you. It's important to be honest with yourself, and to examine your lifestyle. We wholeheartedly believe there's the right dog breed out there for anyone, but that there is no single dog breed perfect for everyone. Aussies included. Please do your research!
"Can I visit the puppies?"
ANSWER: Visitations are limited just to those who have put down a deposit on a dog, and even then only scheduled visits intended to see puppies at 6 weeks old, and then at 8 weeks old to pick them up and bring them home. We need to keep visits to puppies minimal for the sake of their vulnerable immune systems.
"Can I just come and visit? See the adult dogs?"
ANSWER: Dog breeders really aren't pet stores or even dog shelters... We're all raising dogs out of our private homes. Beyond just not wanting strangers walking around our house, interrupting our lunch and whatnot, our home owner insurance isn't really jazzed about people coming to visit and meeting lots of intact dogs. Sorry. If we move, this rule may end up altered.
"Ok but I'm here on your property now, totally uninvited :) "
ANSWER: Expect to be immediately told to leave :')
"Are there any puppies with docked tails available?"
ANSWER: No, we 100% do not dock the tails of our aussies. We have one girl (Pippy) who can throw natural bob tails, but most look more like half-tails akin to a lynx or a bunny tail than the round rump of most show ring aussies."
"Is it bad that other breeders dock tails?"
ANSWER: No. It's a point of preference as far as we, Jacques and Brittany, are concerned. The docked look is traditional and served a purpose (to not get their tails hurt when working), meanwhile keeping the tail is modern pragmatism; do they need to lose a body part for reasons that don't apply to their future lives? We can confidently assure you your future dog will be happy either way so long as they're getting good food, exercise, and attention. We'd advise potential aussie homes to decide for themselves what their preference is.
"Is there a personality difference between aussie colors, sex, or sizes?"
ANSWER: No, not really! Color, sex, and size play very little into the individual personality of an aussie. You'll find a whole range of personalities within a single litter. The only consistent thing we see is that the smallest in the litter tends to compensate for being smaller by having a bolder personality--but this applies specifically in the singular litter, not in comparing two different litters of two different sizes. If your hope is for a specific personality and you base it on color/sex/size, then you're really just gambling! If you need a specific personality out of your future dog, let us know so we can work with you to find the dog that suits you best!
"What's the difference between you and x breeder?"
ANSWER: I never really know how to answer this question... We don't know every breeder out there, and while I can look at their site and read it, so can you. We'd advise you to assess that for yourself; we can tell you what we are, and you can ask the other breeder what they're about! Whose priorities suit your own priorities the most?
"When will the eye color be visible? They look blue!"
ANSWER: Puppies, like human babies, are born with "baby blues!" They're a sort of deep, greyish blue that changes gradually, darkening to brown or lightening to blue. So, most of our puppy photos, due to lighting, may look blue even when the eye color is "undecided". Eye color starts to change and be visible at 5 - 6 weeks old, but may continue to change even at 8 weeks old. Marble eyes are more difficult, if not impossible, to pick out in the young puppies...
"What is the price of your puppies?"
ANSWER: They are $2500 for merles and $1500 tris.
"What is the deposit/picking order price?"
ANSWER: In order to see the puppies/be in the picking order, you must have a deposit down with us. This is a nonrefundable $500 deposit. It is a portion of the total payment price of the dog. Additionally, if for any reason your interest for a puppy isn't fulfilled by the litter you put a deposit down on, you will be at the top of the picking order in the next litter/the next litter that interests you.
