Dog Food Advisor
You are what you eat, something that certainly applies to dogs. Too much kibble brands are content to stuff our dogs with fillers and regulation on dog food is simply not the best. Always be wary of the ingredients in dog foods. Whatever brand you choose, make sure to read the ingredients and the nutritional value. You want to look for dog food brands that can list a specific meat (ex. "chicken") as the first ingredient. Depending on your dog and their expected size, keep nutritional values in mind.
In general, larger dogs need a steady smaller meals throughout the day, with no need for exceptionally high protein percentages. As it's better for them to take their time growing. For smaller dogs, you can't go wrong with higher protein intake.
We aren't nutrition experts here however, and will not command what others choose to do for their canine nutrition. Do some research, examine your own life and your individual dogs needs, and make an educated decision for yourself! The only thing we do advise is that to assist your choice, to use DogFoodAdvisor.com as it gives an unbiased review of dog food brands and their ingredients.
If possible, we would advise shooting for dog food brands that are rated at 4 - 5 stars in quality.

What my dogs have
Our puppies and mother dogs are given pH balanced water via a Kangen Water filter. Depending on where you live, you may need to consider what the pH level of your tap is. The pH level of your pooch's drinking water can affect the pH balance of their urine, which can (rarely) result in health risks for adult dogs. Such as urinary crystals. Most dogs will not require this care however, and is just something nice we do for our nursing mothers and puppies to be sure they have the easiest, healthiest time.
For food, we give all of our dogs a mixture of foods. In general, our dogs are fed Taste of the Wild. Any flavor of either. Additionally we supplement their diets with Tylee's, a human grade dog food brand. Another favorite of ours and our momma dogs is Stella & Chewy's freeze dried raw dinner patties (usually we go with the beef, lamb, or whitefish ones)! What we really love about these Stella ones is they come in nice puck shapes, conveniently portioned out for you to supplement or use as a full meal. It allows us to very accurately deal with individual dogs intake needs.
For a long time now, our preference for dog chews has been cow hooves and pig hocks, however lately we are increasingly favoring pizzles/bully sticks (aka bull penises!) for our dogs to chew on. They are dried out and hard, but won't splinter like bones and hooves can. While the adult dogs can munch right through one in an afternoon, it takes days and days for our puppies to come close. Pizzles are easily digested and nutritional too!
I also give my pups (all of my dogs) Nuvet vitamins as soon as they begin to eat. As finicky as Aussies can be, they all love these! Nuvet is one of the best vitamins on the market for dogs, containing everything they need to enhance their immunity. This is particularly important for pups whereby their immunity drops as weaning from mother begins, and they are most vulnerable to sickness from 6 - 16 weeks, even when vaccinated.

Why Nuvet?
1) They are COLD processed! This is important, and my number one reason for using Nuvet. Cold processing retains the stability of the nutrients. Did you know that dog kibble is high heat dried? The vitamins they add to their formulas are lost in the heat drying process, but they never tell you that. Yup, that $60 per bag dog food is nutrient depleted. The only way around that is to feed a raw food diet, or supplement with cold processed vitamin.
2) Nuvet uses only human grade natural ingredients, and are made in a human FDA laboratory. You could take them yourself.
3) The ingredient list is amazing! Everything, and then some, is in there! Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and much more!
4) My dogs love the taste! In the past, if I snuck some vitamin powder into their food, they refused to eat it, but Nuvet enhances their meal's flavor.
Avoid all of the following: allergies, itching and hot spots, arthritis, digestive issues, hair loss, infections, low energy, tear staining, etc. Be the client your dog's vet never needs to see.
